Process is the OR kindergarten assessment
-two days of assessments help get to know new students
-first day half of students at a time, Tues will be first full day with all students
-helps balance the classroom in abilities, gender, personalities etc and minimize anxiety

Health program updates will be presented
-new laws such as erin’s law to protect children from abuse
-more accurate terminology will be used, preview available

Highly trained teachers will help kids with more emotional needs are now available
Attendance:
94% attendance rate will make child at a higher than average success rate
More than 10 days absent contributes to a higher rate of risk and lower success

-A lot of confusion about how to find opportunities, idea for volunteer opportunity orientation including tour of office and classrooms, computer sign in

-New youth access cards will be made available for all students in Beaverton school district
-studies show library access improve school success and reading ability
-live online homework help, e-books, 5 books/audio books at a time at any Washington co library, SORA-school version of libby app for online resources, writing labs, all available in Spanish, canopy online video streaming services, up to 5 items on hold at a time
-grade of child and subject can be entered to get live tutoring help 1-10pm
-no fines for these cards
-students with cards already will be updated to this new type of card (traditional cards can have 100 check outs and 50 holds at a time but does have fines attached)

-2 additional classrooms were added to Vose this year that are specialized programs
-42 total are in the district, 2 at Vose
-Many special ed students had very long bus commutes, new program allows these kids to be nearer to home
-Classrooms at Vose are EGC (emotional growth center) and have own classroom spaces with 16 students in each
-Many of these students will also be in the regular classrooms for varying amounts of time
-Messaging to student body: open to questions, respect different needs, respect privacy, lead by example of acceptance
-Growth phase to welcome these students is under way, classes will grow throughout the years
-Report cards will be out 1/29:
-New in Beaverton this year, ALL ONLINE ON PARENTVUE
-This will be used throughout middle school/high school

-Kindness assembly will be held tomorrow 2/7
-Parents are welcome and appreciated at assemblies!
-Report cards now available on Parentvue, also available on an app
-Parentvue is a great asset to parents
-Grades, project details, class topics are all available to parents
-Padres Unidos group now meeting monthly for spanish speaking parents
-This group provides a safe space that respects cultural differences
-Some cultural barriers exist and this group helps to define the needs of our community members
-Some needs identified were need for social time that includes some school and parent info.
-Some crossover topics will be discussed at future meetings, all are welcome!
-Standardized testing will begin this month, teachers will be providing support to students by simulating learning tools in the same way test is done
-More emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, credit for showing work, are all changes to standardized tests this year.

Welcome and Intro, PTO values are read aloud
A Moment with Monique: 6:13-6:45
-All staff is very appreciative for all PTO has done this week!
-The school community has been affected by fears about coronavirus
-Hand outs passed out regarding district guidelines and info, all available on the district website and sent in emails to families
-Daily briefings with the district and health dept are staying on top of the situation
-Please read about when to keep your child home sick and the guidelines on how to speak in age appropriate way to kids about the risks.
-Comic to help kids that are affected with rumors and misinformation is shared.
-Vose has taken special precautions involving custodian cleaning of high touch areas.
-Vose has very high cleaning standards and takes the health of students very seriously.
-Spring break reading challenge, prizes for kids!
-Reading list hand out will be sent home in friday folders
-Guest speaker Danica from the district office
-Supports AVID implementation in secondary schools
-College readiness system
-Involves rigorous coursework and elective courses
-Targets first generation college goers and low income students
-Also supports opportunity knowledge for families for college and professional learning for teachers
-Teachers, counselors, and administrators get trained to help kids connect meaningfully to classroom knowledge to make it more effective
-Goal is to close the gap in opportunities for college and higher learning and to bridge communities and schools together.
-CUrrently working with a team to look at how to strengthen and foster the community relationships especially in secondary and high school settings
-Community involvement seems to dwindle after primary school
-How do we make inclusive environments the norm across the district?
-Training teachers on cultural responsiveness
-Recruitment and training of volunteers to be tutors for students
-How can we increase discussions regarding opportunities and embrace the community?
-Feedback is requested from parents
-Want to know what works in our community and make it standard practice for all schools, goal is to provide the same opportunities across the district
-One goal of this project has been to identify and reach parents that don't get email, seesaw, or other communications
-Very successful! Down from 400+ to about 35 families that are disconnected from communications.
-PTO is in a perfect position to provide feedback due to desire to provide equity across the community.
-Danica will be sending out a form for input to all parents, forms are passed out to all present.
-This form will be sent in the Vose newsletter, look for it soon!
-QR code is included, as well as ability to provide contact info for further updates.
-The feedback data collected can be used to inform district PTO training as well as other community training and organizational improvements to reach more families and make sure all are heard and served.
