Dear Vose Elementary Parents & Guardians of Pre-Kindergarteners:,

Welcome to the 2026-27 school year at Vose Elementary! We are all eager to have the opportunity to greet you and your children towards the end of August! Our staff is working hard to ensure the safety, social-emotional and academic needs of each student are considered and embraced. It is you, our students, families and staff that have continued to build a resilient and vibrant school community and I am confident that together we will continue to support each other and the needs of our students.I am so excited for my 9th year as your principal at Vose! Please read the following information carefully. We will also be mailing a packet with similar information that you should receive the third week of August.

There are a couple of items we would like to bring to your attention in the meantime:

Introducing our new Assistant Principal, Dr. Kristy Davey! Please join me in welcoming Dr. Davey, who is replacing Ellen Arnold, after she retired in June. Dr. Davey and Mrs. Singleton have been working hard throughout the summer to complete schedules, complete hiring and manage the building preparations for the new school year...please learn more about Dr. Davey below.

Arrival & Dismissal Information: below explains what areas of our parking lots are for buses only and where our parent drop-off and pick-up area is located. For the safety of everyone, please observe these procedures whenever you are at our school.

Meet & Greet Teachers/School Supply Drop-Off: We invite your family and all of our school community to participate by attending our Meet & Greet Teachers/School Supply Drop-Off on Thursday, August 20, 2026: 3:15-5:15pm- Meet & Greet Teachers/School Supply Drop-Off, where students and families can meet staff and drop off supplies, and take photos to celebrate the new year!

School Supply Lists: In preparation for your child’s attendance at Vose, we have attached our school supply lists below.

Transportation/Bus Routes: School bus routes will be sent to you directly from the district’s Transportation department. If you live more than 1 (one) mile from the school your child will have bus transportation. If you have questions about bus routes, please contact the Transportation Department directly at 503-356-4200.

First Week Packet: A packet of school related information will be sent home with your child during the first week of school for you to review and return to school. Some information will need to be reviewed, signed and returned to school.

Breakfast and Lunch: Meals are available to All Students for FREE at Vose.

Raptor Volunteer Management System: A few years ago, the District volunteer management system changed to a system called Raptor. We need all parents, guardians and family members who would like to volunteer at any time to apply if they didn't last year (you only need to reapply every 2 years!).

Here is some additional important information:

• School hours for students at Vose will be 7:45am-2:20pm Monday-Friday. Tardy bell is at 7:45am. Important activities start right away at 7:45am. Please make every effort to ensure your child is at Vose, ready to start the day by 7:45am, by 7:20am if they need to eat breakfast.

• The building will be open at 7:20am for supervision and breakfast. All students at Vose qualify for free breakfast and free lunch each school day.

• Tuesday, August 25th will be the first day of school for ALL 1st grade - 5th grade students. However, the plan for Kindergarteners will be slightly different in order for families to connect with teachers and other families. We will be sending a letter home to all incoming Kindergarten families with more details.

The opening of school is always exciting and we are committed to working together with Vose families to provide a wonderful education for all of our students. Dear Vose families (sent out July 17, 2026),

We are writing to share an update about our class configurations for the upcoming school year. As you are probably aware, there has been a significant decline in birthrates over the last six years nationally and regionally, as well as other factors, which have resulted in a decline in enrollment at Vose and other Beaverton schools. In response to current enrollment numbers we will have 4 (four) less teachers at Vose, resulting in a total of 24 teachers Kindergarten - 5th grades, down from our high of 30 teachers a few years ago. As a result of this reduction in the number of teachers assigned to Vose, we will need to make some adjustments. We are committed to providing a high-quality, personalized education for all students so therefore we will be creating:

* three 2nd/3rd grade blended classrooms for our 2nd & 3rd graders who are not in the dual language program due to less students enrolled in those grades compared to prior years.

* three 4th/5th grade blended classrooms for our 4th & 5th graders who are not in the dual language program due to less students enrolled in those grades compared to prior years.

* two 2nd grade dual language classes instead of the three dual language classes we have had in prior years, due to less students enrolled in those grades compared to prior years.

* two 3rd grade dual language classes instead of the three dual language classes we have had in prior years, due to less students enrolled in those grades compared to prior years.

These classrooms will be lead by experienced teachers and as a school we will focus our teacher training and professional development on designing and implementing instruction for multi-age and differentiated learning to best meet the needs of all students. Teacher/class placement information will be mailed out to families after the middle of August. In the meantime, we will share information about the beginning of year events in a parent/family newsletter in the next few weeks.

Here is some additional information about multi-age (sometimes referred to as “blends”) classrooms:

A blended, or “multi-age,” classroom is a learning environment where students from two grade levels are taught together by the same teacher. These learning models are not new and have been successfully implemented in schools across the country. Research and experience show that blended classrooms can provide rich opportunities for academic growth and social development.

Benefits of a blended classroom:

• Individualized learning: Students are met where they are, and instruction is tailored to their academic and developmental needs rather than strictly by grade level.

• Peer learning: Younger students benefit from observing and learning from older peers, while older students deepen their understanding by mentoring and modeling for younger classmates.

• Continuity and confidence: Students may have the opportunity to remain with the same teacher for more than one year, which can lead to stronger relationships and a deeper understanding of each child’s learning style.

• Development of independence and leadership: With a broader range of learners in the classroom, students have more opportunities to develop responsibility, empathy, and collaboration skills.
   

What we’re doing to ensure success:

• Thoughtful student placement: We are carefully reviewing each student’s strengths and needs to ensure a balanced and supportive classroom.

• Targeted professional development: The teachers leading the blended classroom will receive training and support in best practices for multi-age instruction as well as specially designed curriculum guides from our district’s Teaching and Learning department.

• Clear learning goals: Grade-level standards will still guide instruction. Students will receive the full academic curriculum for their enrolled grade level, with enrichment and scaffolding as needed.

• Family communication: We will provide ongoing communication about classroom learning and how you can support your child at home. We also welcome your questions and input throughout the year.
   

We are confident that this model will offer a positive, enriching experience for students, and we are excited about the possibilities this approach brings to our school community. If you have questions or would like to discuss the blended classroom model further, we invite you to attend a parent information session on Thursday, August 20 from 4:30pm-5:00pm at Vose during our Meet & Greet/School Supply Drop-Off at Vose Elementary, or feel free to contact me at 503-356-2430.

Class/TeacherPlacement

In an effort to create classes that have a balance between gender, age in relationship to peers, academic skills, social skills, special needs, student interaction and learning styles our staff has worked carefully to place students in supportive classroom communities. You will have an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher on Thursday, August 20 at our Meet & Greet Teachers & School Supply Drop-Off from 3:15-5:15pm. For 1st-5th graders, your child’s assigned Classroom Teacher will be listed at the bottom of the welcome letter in the Back to School packet that will be mailed home in about a month (3rd week of August). The packet should be received by Wednesday, August 19th. The teacher assignment can also be found on ParentVue, starting on Monday, August 17. On the first few days of school, there will be staff and signs to guide you and your child to the classrooms and ensure they feel welcome and safe.

For 1st-5th grade students: parents can walk their child to class starting at 7:30am ONLY, ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS, Tuesday, August 25.

For Kindergarten students: parents can walk their child to class starting at 7:40am ONLY, from Thursday, August 27 - Friday, September 4.

There will also be an opportunity to meet the teacher at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 3rd from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

A few years ago, our district purchased new iPads for all K-2 students, and the new iPads take headphones with a USB-C plug, which means that if parents want to provide a set of headphones, they should have a USB-C plug. In the Beaverton School District, our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. To improve that safety, we’ve adopted a visitor and volunteer management system called Raptor Technologies.

For Volunteers

To volunteer in BSD, all volunteer applicants are required to review mandatory volunteer training information, apply through Raptor, and consent to an Oregon criminal records check. Please do this as soon as possible if you are planning to volunteer at Vose or any Beaverton school.

Also, to provide the safest possible environment for our students, we’ll be requiring all volunteers to go through this process, including the criminal records check, every two years. Once in the Raptor system, you’ll receive an email notification when it’s time to resubmit.

Finally, we’re now requiring that all volunteers, regardless of their frequency of volunteering, apply through the Raptor system, including one-time guest speakers, career day participants, science fair judges and volunteers for activities like art lit, class parties, field days, fun runs, OBOB competitions and more. Any volunteer who has direct or indirect contact with our students will need to be cleared through Raptor.

Process for Visiting Schools

Every person who visits or volunteers in our schools and district facilities will need to provide an ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport, consulate card) which will be used to conduct an on-the-spot check of the Sex Offender Registry. After clearing the check, you’ll be presented with an ID badge with your name and destination. You’ll also be required to sign out in the main office when you depart.

Please register to be a volunteer ASAP! ALL parents must be registered in the new system and pass a background check to volunteer!

We’re looking for new parents to join our PTO Board and keep our amazing programs going. This year is the perfect time to shadow current board members before their terms end. It’s a great way to connect with your child’s school, meet other families, and bring fresh ideas to Vose.

We urgently need a Fun Run Planning Committee to start by the end of August—without it, our biggest fundraiser won’t happen. That means no funding for STARBASE, field trips, Art Lit, or classroom/STEAM supplies.

At Vose Elementary, we have a Dual Language Spanish immersion program K-5, where students are able to learn to read, write and speak bilingually in Spanish and English. This is an optional program that interested families can apply to at Vose. Students should start the program as early as possible (K or 1st grade at the latest) and can continue in the program into middle & high school.

In Kindergarten, 90% of their day is in Spanish, with the amount of time spent in English gradually increasing each school year, in order for students to be able to read, write and speak in both English & Spanish. It's important to know that it generally takes 5-7 years for someone to fully acquire a new language. But it is a lifelong skill and gift that keeps on giving!

In an effort to create classes that have a balance between gender, age in relationship to peers, academic skills, social skills, special needs, student interaction and learning styles we will not officially assign teachers prior to the first full day of school on Monday, August 31st.

We have found that by waiting a few days we can prevent assigning students randomly, as our goal is to create a balanced classroom of students who will thrive together in their learning with their teacher all year. You will have an opportunity to meet our five kindergarten teachers on Thursday, August 20th at our Meet the Teachers & School Supply Drop-Off from 3:15pm-5:15pm.

For the first days of school your child will be assigned to a color group (i.e. red, blue, etc.) which will be listed in a letter you will receive in the mail the week of August 17th. On the first few days of school, there will be staff and signs to guide you and your child to the classrooms and ensure they feel welcome and safe.

Please remember this is just for the first few days of school until we are able to more accurately place students into classrooms. Your family will receive your final teacher assignment through an email in ParentSquare (our school communication system) by Friday, August 28th by 5pm. Starting on Monday, August 31st, your child will join their assigned teacher and you will have the opportunity to drop off your child at her/his class and meet the teacher. There will also be an opportunity to meet the teacher at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 3rd from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

VoseDropOffandPickupProcedures

Working together, the following procedures and expectations will help us reduce that potential frustration and safety concerns. We appreciate your cooperation, patience and cautious driving as we all work together to have a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal process at Vose.

Please follow these instructions as well the visual signs, traffic patterns and staff provided on-site so we can all enjoy a safe drop-off and pick-up experience. Please review the detailed information and the maps below.

It is important that we all follow the system to keep students and families safe. Please do not block Denney Road or cut in front of waiting cars. Thank you for your help to insure the safety of all our school community.

MorningArrival/Drop-Off

• The school doors will open at 7:20am, there will not be supervision outside so we ask parents to not drop off students before 7:20am.

• Classroom doors open at 7:40am. Parents can escort 1st-5th grade students to class on the first day of school only. Parents can escort Kindergarten students to class through the first week of school until Friday, September 4th only. After that, staff will assist students if needed. Teachers are not available to parents/students prior to 7:20am unless a prior appointment is made and parents check in at the office. During this time, teachers are preparing for the important learning and activities for the day.

• Students will proceed directly to the cafeteria to get breakfast and/or to move to their designated Morning Mix activity location. All meals (breakfast & lunch) are free for all students at Vose. Morning Mix activity locations will rotate among grade levels and options include the gym, music room, playground, etc.

• Car Drop-Off: Parents/guardians will use the parking lot to the east of the building.

  • If you arrive before 7:20am, please DO NOT park in the actual parking spots in the parking lot. Instead, please pull along the curb, following the GREEN solid line in the diagram below, stopping at the ORANGE dot. However, if you are planning to park and come into the school, you can of course use one of the parking spots.

  • Do NOT park on private property, including private driveways or apartment complex parking lots. You could be towed at your own expense.

  • Do NOT drop off students until you have passed both crossing guards and all of the RED flagging in front of the building. It is not safe and causes cars to back up.

  • Please DO NOT drop students off in front of any of the RED flags.

  • When driving in, cars will need to pull ahead further around the curve of the curb so that we can get more cars into our parking lot (GREEN solid line= where cars need to drive along the curb, and the ORANGE dot marks where the first car stops and unloads their students once cars are moving through the parking lot). Please follow the signs and staff waving you ahead. Students should walk to the playground gate by walking along the fence. Students should be ready to unload with their coats and shoes on, and backpack/lunch box within hands reach. Drivers should not stop and get out if at all possible. If you feel you need to get out to assist your students, please park in a parking spot. Vose staff can help students and close car doors if needed. The quicker each family unloads and exits the parking lot, the more cars and students we can get off of Denney Road and the less congestion overall. Students will enter through the playground gate and then enter through the courtyard door into the cafeteria.

  • When pulling in and out along the curb, please use patience and caution as you look around and use your turn signals. The flow will move more quickly if we are all calm and patient and not speeding or cutting each other off.

• Walkers: can enter in the front door or the back door by the playground.

• Buses: will enter and exit in the bus-only area to the west side of the building. Pre-K and cars from families in our Specialized EGC program ONLY are allowed in this area. Students will enter the door through our back hallway to the north of the building. Staff will be onsite to guide them through the correct door and through the hallway to the cafeteria so they can grab breakfast on the way to their classroom if needed.

• Bikes/Scooters: bikes & scooters will need to be stored in the front of the school or the back of the school in the designated bike racks. Helmets can be taken to class for storage.

• Car Drop-Off: Parents/guardians will use the parking lot to the east of the building.

  • If you arrive before 7:20am, please DO NOT park in the actual parking spots in the parking lot. Instead, please pull along the curb, following the GREEN solid line in the diagram below, stopping at the ORANGE dot. However, if you are planning to park and come into the school, you can of course use one of the parking spots.

  • Do NOT park on private property, including private driveways or apartment complex parking lots. You could be towed at your own expense.

  • Do NOT drop off students until you have passed both crossing guards and the red & blue flagging in front of the building. It is not safe and causes cars to back up.

  • Please DO NOT drop students off in front of any of the blue flags.

  • When driving in, cars will need to pull ahead further around the curve of the curb so that we can get more cars into our parking lot (GREEN solid line= where cars need to drive along the curb, and the ORANGE dot marks where the first car stops and unloads their students once cars are moving through the parking lot). Please follow the signs and staff waving you ahead. Students should walk to the playground gate by walking along the fence. Students should be ready to unload with their coats and shoes on, and backpack/lunch box within hands reach. Drivers should not stop and get out if at all possible. If you feel you need to get out to assist your students, please pull ahead to the ORANGE dot and park. Vose staff can help students and close car doors if needed. The quicker each family unloads and exits the parking lot, the more cars and students we can get off of Denney Road and the less congestion overall. Students will enter through the playground gate and then enter through the courtyard door into the cafeteria.

  • When pulling in and out along the curb, please use patience and caution as you look around and use your turn signals. The flow will move more quickly if we are all calm and patient and not speeding or cutting each other off.

• Walkers: can enter in the front door or the back door by the playground.

* Please call the office at 503-356-2430 for any changes in how a child will go home by 2:00pm so we ​have enough time to get the information to the student & teacher.

• Car Pick-Up:

  • Access to parking in the parking lot will close from 2:00pm-2:40pm. Please DO NOT park in the actual parking spots in the parking lot unless you are getting out of your car to walk up to the front to wait for your student. Instead, please pull along the curb, following the GREEN line in the diagram below. The first car in the first row should pull all the way to the RED dot.

  • There are two parallel car lines (GREEN parallel lines on map), which help alleviate backed-up traffic on SW Denney Road. Staff will direct you to which line to join.

  • If you do park in the lot before 2:00pm, please be sure to park on the EAST row of the parking lot (the row farthest from the school building) so you do not get blocked in by the two parallel car lines on the WEST row of the parking lot.

  • The two parallel lines of cars will run along the curb closest to the front of the building, starting at the crosswalk near the school mailbox on the corner in the parking lot (see GREEN line on the map below). This helps alleviate the number of cars blocking SE Denney Road. The two parallel lines will follow the curb along the front of the school (on map= two parallel GREEN lines) and merge back into one line at the curve (merge happens at PINK dot on the map). Please follow the signs and instructions from Vose staff.

• Parents should NOT park in the west Staff ONLY parking lot. All parent pick-up and drop-off should occur in the east parking lot, in front of the school. The west parking lot is ONLY for buses, day care, PreK and staff vehicles who have prior approval from the principal.

• Do NOT park on private property, including private driveways or apartment complex parking lots. You could be towed at your own expense.

• Students who are in Car Pick-Up or being picked up by a parent who is walking will be walked by their classroom teacher from the bus loading zone, then the parent walker pick-up area and finally to the car pick-up area.

• Parents: please wait in the designated area for your child. Please do not enter the building or walk to another area to take them out of their class line

• Siblings: There will be an area at the front of the school where students will be able to wait for any sibling(s) before proceeding to their parents waiting in the Walker waiting area or the Car waiting area. Parents should wait in the area designated for the grade level of their youngest child- please look for signs designating K, 1, 2-3 and 4-5 along the front of the building.

• Bus Riders will be dismissed once their buses are ready for loading.

• Walker Pick-Up: Parents/guardians walking to pick-up their child will need to cross at the crosswalk at King Road and wait on the designated spots by the front of the building for their child to come to them. Please DO NOT cross Denney Rd without using a crosswalk- this is VERY dangerous.

1st Week Packet: A packet of school related information will be sent home with your child during the first week of school for you to review and return to school.

Birthday Celebrations/Class Parties/Classroom Snacks: Parents/Guardians please do not bring treats, balloons, etc. to the classroom for a “party.”

1. Birthdays may be celebrated in the classroom by teachers, at the discretion of the teacher. This approach will allow for each student’s birthday to be recognized, maximize instructional time, as well as limit the sugary foods that are consumed when regularly celebrating birthdays in the classroom, limit allergic reactions and honor the diversity among our students and families.

• If your child wants to invite children from the class to his/her birthday party, the invitations should not be delivered to children at school unless the whole class is being invited. Please note that student phone and addresses are confidential and therefore cannot be provided by the teacher.

2. Classroom Parties & School Celebrations Smart Snacks Guide: Classroom teachers may schedule class parties and/or celebrations during the school day. In April 2025 our district adopted a new policy to support students’ health through healthy snack guidelines. Please refer to the enclosed handout for a short assortment of Smart Snacks compliant products that may serve as treat ideas for classroom celebrations. Please follow these guidelines and always check with the school office if you have any questions. Snacks or treats that do not meet these Smart Snack guidelines will not be allowed at school.

3. School Day Snacks A Healthful Guide:Classroom snacks can be a great way to bridge the gap between meals and keep kids fueled for learning. We recognize that some students may perform better and feel more satisfied when allowed a snack break, and we support students having an opportunity to consume a nourishing snack during the school day. When you are packing a snack for only your child to consume, you are free to pack whatever you like, provided relevant classroom allergies and food safety are considered. If snacks are being provided to the entire class, please note the BSD Local Wellness Policy, which states that classroom snacks should comply with Oregon Smart Snack Standards* which are set by the state as the nutritional guidelines for foods offered on school campuses. The items listed below meet the Oregon Smart Snack Standards.

Breakfast and Lunch: Breakfast and lunch are available for FREE to ALL Vose students. However, if you would like to apply for free or reduced priced breakfast/lunch, which can allow access to other benefits and programs, forms will be in our front office or on the district’s website.

Bus routes will be sent to you directly from the district’s Transportation department. If you live more than 1 (one) mile from the school your child will have bus transportation. Your child’s bus schedule will be available on ParentVue the week before school starts. If you have questions about bus routes, please contact the Transportation Department directly at 503-356-4200.

Contact Information: Parents/Guardians need to consistently contact the office to ensure we have the most current email addresses, mailing address and phone numbers for each family member so that you can continue to receive timely information. We primarily use email and text for regular notifications and communication so it is especially important the primary adult contact info is updated and accurate. You can check your ParentVue account or call the office at 503-356-2430 to check all info is up-to-date.

Enrollment Verification: Returning families have been receiving emails and notifications regarding completing the online enrollment verification process on ParentVue, our online student information system. Please complete that verification process as soon as possible to confirm your student’s enrollment. If you have any questions or need assistance please contact our office at 503-356-2430.

Immunizations: All immunizations need to be up-to-date for students to attend public school in Oregon. Please contact your healthcare provider or local clinics for immunization information.

ParentSquare: The Beaverton School District maintains a communication platform called ParentSquare to communicate regularly with parents about important news from the district and your local school(s). Parents need to be proactive to activate their account and download the app so they receive all communication and up-to-date information. More information is enclosed. ParentSquare is a simple-to-use platform that provides a safe way for everyone at a school to connect. With ParentSquare, you'll be able to:

• Receive messages from the district and school via email, text or app notification

• Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once at 6 p.m. daily

• Communicate in your preferred language

• Direct message teachers, staff and other parents

• Participate in group messages

• Sign up for parent-teacher conferences

Registration: Student registration for new incoming Kindergartners or siblings can be completed online on our district website or by coming to our office starting Wednesday, August 5, Monday - Friday 7:30am-3:00pm. Starting Monday, August 10 our office will be open 7:30am-3:30pm. Please complete this process as soon as possible so you receive all communication and updates in a timely manner.

• If you are a returning student, parents need to be sure to complete your Online Verification (you should have received an email about that this summer...log into your ParentVue account- click here: https://parentvue.beaverton.k12.or.us/PXP2_Login.aspx)

• If you have a student who will be new to Vose, K - 5th grade, please get in touch with the office as soon as possible at 503-356-2430, Monday through Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm or go online here to register: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/enrollment

Volunteering: Volunteers are an important part of our school community and we value the many ways parents/guardians and family members can help through our PTO, Padres Unidos parent group, supporting classroom teachers and our Art Literacy program, to name a few. Parents/guardians and community volunteers can complete an application and background check to create a profile in the district-wide Volunteer Management System. Once a profile is created, volunteers will be able to update personal information, view and sign-up for open volunteer needs, and communicate directly with the school Volunteer Coordinator. For more information, visit the Volunteer Information on the BSD website. This process must be completed if parents/guardians or any family members want to volunteer for Field Trips, classroom projects, etc. and it must be completed every two years.

In alignment with Governor Tina Kotek’s executive order last year, the district made adjustments to the personal electronic device policy, starting last school year. All personal devices — including cell phones, earbuds, headphones and smartwatches — must be stored in backpacks during the school day, including restroom breaks and lunchtime. Students with IEPs or 504 plans that include device-related accommodations are exempt. If you need to get an urgent message to your child during the school day, please call the main office.

If you haven’t visited the ParentSquare app in a while and you see a bunch of old messages in your feed, there’s a good chance that you’ve been logged out due to an app update.

If you’ve been logged out, there’ll be a generic avatar in the top right corner of your mobile app. Tap the avatar and that will bring you to the sign-in screen. Once you sign in, your post feed should update.

Welcome to a new school year from your School Nurse! To ensure your child’s health and safety, I would like to share a few items with you.

HEALTH CONCERNS: Please inform your School Nurse of any severe allergies, surgeries, accidents or new health problems that occurred during the summer months or that may occur during the school year.

ILLNESS: Please remember to keep your child home when ill. Students may not attend school with a fever greater than 100.4 F° and must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine before returning to school.

If your child is sick with a diagnosed communicable disease, please notify the school as soon as possible. This notification will greatly assist others who, due to medical reasons and/or treatments, have weakened immune systems and may require immediate and specialized care.

MEDICATION: Medication may be administered to students who require it during the school day. Parents must transport medication to school in the original container and complete a Medication Authorization Form. Please provide emergency medication if prescribed for your student.

IMMUNIZATION: All students must be up to date with immunizations before the state exclusion day mid-February 2026. Students who are not up to date will be excluded from school. Please review your student’s immunization record with your health care provider and provide any needed documentation.
